Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Here I present the review of the paper entitled “Recent developments in phenotypic and molecular diagnostic methods for antimicrobial resistance detection in Staphylococcus aureus: a narrative review” submitted to Diagnostics.

Paper reviews novel methods in diagnostic of antibiotic resistance of S. aureus.

This is a well written paper. I do not have critical comments. I would like to congratulate the author great wrok.

Author Response

I thank the reviewer for reading the manuscript and for the positive feedback.

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Author

Thank you very much for your manuscript submission. Indeed, your manuscript is well-designed and well-represented. I truly enjoyed when I read your manuscript.

I want to suggest you an invaluable Paper which can be a complementary reference to your manuscript. Please read and add the below paper to the References section of the manuscript.

Writing a strong scientific paper in medicine and the biomedical sciences: a checklist and recommendations for early career researchers. Biol Futur. 2021 Dec;72(4):395-407. doi: 10.1007/s42977-021-00095-z. Epub 2021 Jul 28. PMID: 34554491.

The above paper represents a wide range of software tools and databases regarding the Molecular Biology, Diagnostics, Antibiotics, Genomics, Proteomics, etc. which can be used for different microorganisms e.g., Staphylococcus aureus.

Author Response

I thank the reviewer for reading the manuscript and for the positive feedback. The paper suggested by the reviewer is a helpful checklist/guideline for writing scientific articles, especially for junior researchers. It also provides a useful list of tools/software for example to check for plagiarism, edit manuscripts, visualize proteins or check the English language and style.

However, the paper suggested by the reviewer:

- is a sort of scientific writing guide with a list of tools/software, and therefore has a completely different focus compared to my manuscript (focused on diagnostics of drug resistance on Staphylococcus aureus);

- it has no mention or relevance for the phenotypic or molecular diagnosis of antimicrobial resistance and is certainly not focused on Staphylococcus aureus.

I believe adding this paper to the reference list will not improve manuscript quality, and therefore I decided not to include this paper in the reference list.

Lastly, very minor English language changes have been done in the manuscript in Tables 3 and 4.
