1. Introduction

The 4th International Electronic Conference on Applied Sciences (ASEC 2023), an online event held from 27 October to 10 November 2023, brought together scientists from different areas to discuss important recent developments in several fields. It represented an opportunity to gather an interdisciplinary community to discuss applied sciences.
The conference is oriented to stimulate the growth of interdisciplinary collaborations between different fields of applied sciences, in line with the strategic objectives of the Applied Sciences journal. More specifically, after the success of the first three editions, this year’s edition focused on the thematic areas of applied nature sciences, including applied biosciences and bioengineering; nanosciences, chemistry and materials science; computing and artificial intelligence; electrical, electronics, and communications engineering; mechanical and aerospace engineering; energy, environmental and earth science; food science and technology; as well as applied physical science.
