Dear Collegues,
In recent years, continued growth in the field of omics science, in terms of the understanding of the biological processes observed in human health and diseases, has been reported. Developments in sequencing and progress in high-throughput computational analyses have allowed us to observe the incredible complexity of the molecular context of cancers with unsuspected diversity within the same tumor histological subtype, as well as the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of tumors.
The integration of multiple biological layers of omics studies brought oncology into a new paradigm from the genetic profile of cancer and metastases, improving survival times and promoting selective therapeutic opportunities for precision medicine.
This Special Issue aims to discuss the challenges and future directions for dissecting the tumor environment and host–tumor interaction using multi-omics techniques. Thanks to the development of both experimental protocols and computational methods, the implementation of multi-omics strategies into the clinical workflow will likely introduce benefits in the clinical management of cancers, including decision-making guidance and patient outcome improvement. Another important aspect developed in the present Special Issue will be the study of the role of these specific genetic and epigenetic signatures in the determination of signal transduction pathways regulating both the proliferation and metastases of cancer cells independently from their histological and organ origins. Moreover, we invite our colleagues to show how multi-omics data can be combined with clinical data for the identification of prognostic and treatment-specific biomarkers, paving the way for personalized therapy.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome.
