Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Since Gans conducted the first laparoscopic surgery on a pediatric patient in 1971, minimally invasive procedures have become increasingly popular in children. During the last 30 years, pediatric laparoscopy has evolved rapidly, and this has been mostly attributable to the ongoing development of extremely advanced technical equipment and, consequently, the ongoing creation of instruments created especially for these surgical techniques. Multiple new, promising laparoscopic techniques and instruments have been developed lately, all with the purpose of increasing the surgical benefit and reducing the surgical trauma of our patients.

However, the superiority of pediatric laparoscopic procedures over open surgery is still being debated, in spite of numerous studies, meta-analyses, and reports.

This Special Issue aims to evaluate the efficacy of currently available procedures in pediatric minimally invasive surgical techniques and to highlight state-of-the-art approaches, as well as potential future perspectives related to innovations in pediatric laparoscopy.
