Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Future Internet, titled “Wireless Sensors and Edge Computing in IoT”, is dedicated to advancing research in areas that combine innovative machine learning techniques, optimized network protocols, sustainable IoT solutions, and robust security frameworks. The proliferation of wireless sensors and the shift towards edge computing have opened new avenues for research and development across various sectors.

We seek original contributions that utilize machine learning for predictive analytics in IoT, focusing on optimizing scheduling to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs. This Special Issue also emphasizes the importance of green IoT devices and protocols, advocating for sustainable practices in IoT technology development.

Quality of Service (QoS) optimization in IoT networks is another key focus. Papers that address how to maintain or enhance reliability, efficiency, and overall service quality are particularly valuable. We also encourage submissions that offer new frameworks for securing data and preserving privacy within the decentralized nature of edge computing.

Federated learning and its application in IoT for collaborative data analysis without compromising privacy and the integration of wearable IoT devices with advanced synthetic data applications for machine learning are areas of keen interest. These topics represent the cutting edge of IoT research, where practical challenges meet innovative solutions.

Moreover, this Special Issue will cover well-researched areas related to wireless sensor networks, such as sensor deployment strategies, energy-efficient clustering algorithms, and dynamic routing protocols. These foundational aspects are crucial for the scalability and efficiency of IoT systems. Research on sensor node localization and energy harvesting techniques will also be highlighted, addressing the critical need for self-sustaining sensors in extensive IoT networks.

Additionally, we invite the submission of papers that explore the real-time data processing capabilities of edge computing, including edge analytics and decentralized decision-making processes, which are vital for immediate response applications and reducing cloud dependency.

Through this Special Issue, we aim to foster a rich exchange of ideas and findings that push the boundaries of what is possible with wireless sensors and edge computing in IoT, driving innovation and applicability across a broad range of industries beyond healthcare.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at mdpi.longhoe.net by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Future Internet is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
