Taxonomy in Marine Paleontology

Dear Colleagues,

The modern world, with its organisms, ecosystems and biogeography, can only be understood if its geological roots are considered. The strength of paleontology is its understanding of deep time and the extrinsic factors that have shaped the evolution of life for 3.8 billion years. Since the origin of life, it has been the sediments of the oceans that have especially recorded the history of life as perfect archives. This Special Issue is dedicated to the diverse forms of marine life. The scope will span from the Precambrian to the Pleistocene and includes all organisms from protozoans to vertebrates.

Taxonomy has already been open to the Earth science community and published articles on many fossil groups. Now, we would like to encourage paleontologists in particular to present their systematic and taxonomic research in our journal. We expect papers on all levels of systematics and will also welcome revisions of larger groups. Taxonomy-based papers discussing major steps in evolution, extinctions or paleobiogeographic patterns are of major interest. Manuscripts linking paleontological data with molecular data will also be of great importance for biologists.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at mdpi.longhoe.net by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Taxonomy is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
